This year, Dunsfold airshow hosted a reunion of the Dutch 320 Squadron that flew Mitchell bombers from this airfield during World War II, so it was fitting that a B-25 flew in formation with “Sally B”, the B-17 based at Duxford. Also, there was a good rotary-wing turnout with a Bell H-13 Sioux of the Historic Army Air Flight, an RAF Puma and the Royal Navy Black Cats.
Despite the good conditions at Dunsfold, the Red Arrows cancelled their display due to bad weather at Brize Norton, where they based themselves for the day. Mike Ling, the team’s supervisor, had already arrived so the Dunsfold airshow commentary team persuaded him to provide commentary on the display of a scale model of a Red Arrow Hawk.
